Web Developer

Tramelton Corporation has an immediate opportunity for a Web Developer.  This Web Developer is responsible for the development of client-side code for various public-facing websites and some internal applications. You will be part of a team responsible for producing: structural mark-up, presentational templates, behavioral scripting, and programming of interactive components that connect to databases and back-end systems.

The Web Developer works collaboratively with Creative and IA professionals to translate visual designs, user experience flows and wire-frames into functional, usable interfaces.

The Web Developer understands the importance of site-structure and file naming conventions in helping to optimize our web applications with ease of maintenance, optimal performance, accessibility, search-engine compatibility and assurance of quality in mind. The Web Developer works closely with other engineers to determine technology requirements, procedural guidelines, and documentation.

•   Candidates must show they can adapt and remain flexible to learning new web technologies in a rapidly shifting industry.

•   Excellent communication skills. Candidate must show that they can express ideas with clarity and effectiveness, both written and verbally.

•   Detailed understanding of the web, its history, and a passion for keeping up with the latest industry trends and best practices.

•   Task oriented but flexible. Candidates must be comfortable working to deadlines and be prepared to divide their attention across multiple active projects.

 Qualifications (required):

•   Expert knowledge of CSS, HTML5, XHTML, JavaScript W3C compliant code and Web Standards.

•   Basic to moderate working knowledge of one or more dynamic web programming languages such as PHP, ASP.net, JSP or RubyOnRails.

•   Moderate to expert knowledge of scripting for the W3C DOM (ECMA/JavaScript)

•   Must be comfortable writing all code in non-wysiwyg editors such as BBedit or TextMate.

•   Experience with web accessibility guidelines (WAI, 508) and building sites to operate in multiple environments including JAWS/LYNX and other text-to-speech browsers.

•   Experience producing/slicing CSS-suitable graphics from a Photoshop comp.

•   Candidates must have proven experience constructing web pages/interfaces using W3C valid code and layouts controlled entirely by external CSS.

•   Understanding of the differences between browser rendering of XHTML and CSS specs. Experience with finding solutions and workarounds to ensure cross-browser compatibility.

•   Ability and willingness to meet frequently with Information Architects, Art Directors, Project Mangers and fellow UIE’s to discuss project requirements and hold wire-frame reviews, art comp reviews and code reviews.

•   Experience working day-to-day on both MAC (OS-X) and Windows (2000/XP) platforms

 Qualifications (preferred):

 •   Experience with open-source CMS and content publishing solutions such as Apache Lenya, Wordpress, Movable-Type, Drupal or Expression-Engine.

•   Experience with website internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n)

•   Understanding or working knowledge of RSS/OPML

•   Understanding or working knowledge of Microformats

•   Experience integrating sites with XML, using technologies/methods such as XSLT, simpleXML, RSS, JSON or AJAX.

•   Experience with checking in/out files in CVS or Subversion.

 Responsibilities include:

•   Meeting business objectives by delivering engineering projects on time, within budget, and with high quality.

•   Developing web standards compliant interfaces using client-side programming and mark-up, sometimes involving interaction with Flash or server-side systems.

•   Writing technical specifications and documentation, satisfying functional and other project requirements.

•   Working with the creative teams to verify designs are technically feasible within the allotted time frame.

•   Meeting with Account Strategist and/or Client Business Owners on project scoping, requirements gathering and estimation on a wide variety of projects.

•   Contributing to the continuous improvement of the Engineering dept. development processes and methodologies.
